Courmayeur -
Layout, Skiing, Hotels, How to Get there.
Courmayeur is in Italy's Aosta
Valley about 30 minutes from Aosta or thru the Mont Blanc
tunnel from Chamonix. To get to Courmayeur from
Chamonixeither get a taxi or bus from Geneva and hope you
get a bus from there. From Milan or Turin I dont have a
clue. In both cases if you have the loot it's best to rent a
car and make your own way to Courmayeur. However when you do
get to Courmayeur you will find the village and the skiing
hot, hot, hot. And the skiing is not confined to Courmayeur
either. There's a ski lift in Dolonne about 2 km from
Courmayeur where the Hotel Dolonne is located and
there is another one, a 4-star actually just down the road
from Courmayeur in the other direction. That's the Hotel
Grand Cour Maison in case you are interested and the Hotel
Berthod is in the town center. So there! Anyway
there's also great watering holes and places to eat all
round the town. There's a great range of skiing before I
forget, from beginner to expert. Yep, Courmayeur is hot. OK?
Courmayeur Skiing
The main skiing and for
experts only lies in Mont Blanc ski, at Punta Hellbronner to
be exact, area. And here don't even think of taking on Monte
Bianco without a guide. That is if you want to ski to
Chamonix, or even down the front way back to Courmayeur from
Hellbronner. You will know you are on Mont Blanc when you
take the ski lift that goes to the top of Monte Bianco (Mont
Blanc) from the little town, I think it is Val Ferret.
The main skiing is
accessible from either the main cable car in town or from
either Dolonne or by the Val Veny gas station in the other
little town. This from beginners and experts takes place
mostly on Plan Checrouit where you will find (after another
cable car ride) your way to the Youla or The arp. Here
skiers can find some of the best Internediate skiing (and
some for experts) on the mountains of Courmayeur.
