Courmayeur is great
Posted by :
Red
Although Courmayeur is officially a three language ski resort, it is also comfortable for English speakingvisitors. The skiing on te mountain is great and as up to 80% is covered by snow cannons there is always good snow. And after the mountain has discharged you? Lots of pubs and restaurants; not to mention the shopping. Post a

Golf Course Information
Posted by :
Activelifestyle
If you have a golf course in the European Alps, why not tell us about it? Here, in this space. Naturally this does not mean a hole-by-hole description but a summary of what you have on offer. Sort of like the courses we have here or a bit longer. We want to provide the golfer thinking about traveling to the European Alps with basic information and, possibly, a link to your course. Tell us about the difficulty, the view, the nearby mountain range. Well you get the picture. Our readers are keen to know about all Alpine golf courses. In fact they are keen to know about many European golf courses. As you know, the Activelifestyle Travel Network has a complete sub network devoted to golfing in Europe, Asia, luxury and last minute. Tell us about your course please. Our readers will be grateful. Who knows? They may even leave a favorable comment. Post a

Courmayeur Posh Italy?
Posted by :
Bill
A recent article in the English Newspaper "The News Of The World" gives the Mont Blanc resort of Courmayeur the title of Italy's poshest ski resort. Hmmmnnnn. This article points out that the Aosta Valley resort has all kinds of designer shops on the main street and the high prices for the articles therein. The report also takes under consideration the fact that the Milanese (folks from Milan) visit Courmayeur over the weekend. It goes on to say that the ladies especially are well turned out and that they hardly ever ski. Really? Naturally enough the story covers the skiing in and around Courmayeur, including the Vallee Blanche run to Chamonix in France. We cover the skiing pretty well on this site so I won't go into that here. What really makes me sit up and take notice os the awarding of Courmayeur with the title of Italy's poshest. Did anyone tell this to the folks at Cortina d' Ampezzo?

Financial shots: Italy Skiing
Posted by :
LS
It is true that the global financial situation is not helping, but this year the downturn was offset by great weather condition in terms of snow & sun. It has been so long since the last Christmas & NYE with so much snow both in the Alps & the Appennines (usually Christmas is bizarre... if it snows on the Alps, it is too warm in the Appennines.. or viceversa... snow in the Appennines but it is too cold up in the Alps).
All italian ski resorts were invaded by skiers, almost no vacancies during the two busy weeks. Hoteliers & tourism board say they have reached a number of presences that they were not seeing since years.
It is also true that Italy is cheaper compared to Austria & Switzerland... perhaps situation in those two countries might have been difficult.
Also, temperatures are still low... which means that we expect the good base of snow to keep 'till Easter.

Languages in Courmayeur
Posted by :
Roberto
What languages can one speak in Courmayeur? Gosh, many is the answer. There are two main languages, Italian and French, with either of these you can address almost anyone. English is also widely spoken in Courmayeur and most locals are pretty good at that. There is also one that very few people know, Patois, which you may know is, I think, a mixture of Italian and French and known mostly by locals. If I am wrong let me know please. Post a

Webcams Courmayeur
Posted by :
Bill Fogarty
There are a few great webcams on Courmayeur. They show different locations on the mountain; Plan Checrouit at about 1700 meters, another is a view (I think) from Hotel Lavachey at around 1600 and yet another great shot looking up to Point Helbrunner at about 3,500mum (meters above sea level). To round off this cinema extravagenza there is one more from Foyeur du Fond at 1700mum. Get your popcorn and view at

Helicopter Ski Courmayeur
Posted by :
Leonardo da Vinci
Heliskiing in and around Courmayeur is also a possibility for better skiers. By renting a helicopter with a group of good skiing friends you will be able to ski in many paces where few have tracked before. Heliskiing will leave you with the energy to do what you came for...ski. It is a great way to ski amongst the glaciers and unmarked trails that are plentiful around the Mont Blanc chain. A word to the wise tho. when you are investing in a helicopter pay a bit more and hire a qualified guide. Post a

Getting To Courmayeur
Posted by :
Ratscha
Is Courmayeur easy to reach either from Italy or Switzerland? Not really. If you go with a recognized ski tour company its easy enough, but if you are on your own you might have a problem if you do not rent a car. Easy enough if there are a few of you but fairly expensive from, say, Geneva airport if you are on your own. Thee are however transfer firms vying for your trade, look them up on your favorite search engine. From Milan in Italy, the about 250km is slightly easier; after all you are in the right country, Italy. Take the train to Aosta and from there the bus is your best bet to Courmayeur. Good luck and if you know a better way let me know please. By the by if you are in a car the resort can be reached through the Mont Blanc Tunnel from Chamonix. Post a

Courmayeur Valee Blanche
Posted by :
BF
Is the name Vallee Blanche (white valley) simply a marketing label? You be the judge. Really the run known as te Valle Blanche is all accomplished on the Mer de Glace (the sea of ice) from Point Hellbronerin Italy to Chamonix in France. The skiing journey runs a course of 12kms and starts at aroung 3,500 meters in Courmayeur. On the way down on skis one takes in some of the most staggering scenery in all of the alps. One should never make this trip, no matter how good you may be, without a guide. Nonetheless this is one 12km, cravasse-pocked ski run from Courmayeur that you wil always remember. Hope for a sunny day.
