Recently I wanted to come by public transport from Geneva airport to Courmayeur. Sounds easy enough eh? Not so dear viewer, not so. Oh the first part was easy enough. I got a bus from Geneva to Chamonix for 55 Swiss Francs. And whats more the ladies in the French Tourist Board stand at the airport that sold me the ticket were very nice, very friendly and very helpful. They even told me that there was no bus through the Mont Blanc tunnel that linls Chamonix to Courmayeur on that Saturday or indeed none during May on Sunday. Not possible I thought. There must be some sort of public transport going to Courmayeur. After all it is a major tourism destination and this was a bright spring weekend. Well I was right, there was public transport. Its called a taxi and the price is a firm 100 Euros. Oh my what a delima. I paid and taxied as I had next day appointments. It is not easy to get from Geneva airport to Courmayeur unless - and we recommend - you rent a car. This is affordable if there are a few in your party and you have the freedom to come and go and ski or tour around if that is your wont. Also Barbara at the Hotel Dolonne in Courmayeur tipped me off to especially good value of you plan on visiting some other countires from your Courmayeur base. Buy a ten-pass ticket thru the Mont Blanc tunnel. This costs at writing slightly over 100 Euros and provides the freedom of passage you need. At just over 10 Euros per trip its a pretty good bet anyway. Plus I am told but won swear to it, that the tickets are transferable anyway. Nonetheless the problem is still that of getting to Courmayeur by public transport. This looks like a business opportunity to me.
