Getting to Courmayeur? Not easy.

Recently I wanted to come by public transport from Geneva airport to Courmayeur. Sounds easy enough eh? Not so dear viewer, not so. Oh the first part was easy enough. I got a bus from Geneva to Chamonix for 55 Swiss Francs. And whats more the ladies in the French Tourist Board stand at the airport that sold me the ticket were very nice, very friendly and very helpful. They even told me that there was no bus through the Mont Blanc tunnel that linls Chamonix to Courmayeur on that Saturday or indee.... More details

Mont Blanc Tunnel. Wait up please.

I was invited to dinner in Courmayeur by good friend Alessio Berthod on Monday, May 12. It was the end of a long weekend in France, some sort of a fest. We tried a number of restaurants, all full. No room in the Inn if you get my drift. Finally we were seated in the Pizzeria du Tunnel, one of the most popular and best value locations in Courmayeur. Why, I wondered aloud were the restaurants so busy? Why so many people, it was almost like high season. "The tunnel" came the quick retort. It seems .... More details

Courmayeur/Aosta Helicopter Tours

View Comments - Post a Comments

Heres a great wrinkle on touring the magnificent alpes in Aosta Valley and Courmayeur. And don forget this includes Europes highest mountain, Mont Blanc or, if you prefer, Monte Bianco. Take a helicopter tour. This is a relatively novel entry to the local tourism fare and we like the idea. It must be an unforgettable thrill to be looking down on Europes highest mountain range. And, if you think that Mont Blanc is the be all and end all of peaks to see during this trip you have another thoug.... More details

Be Careful If You are a Person of Colour

As a person of colour, I  experienced racial harassment from the local youths and being stopped by the police on my way to the hotel.  It is truly disappointing in this globalised age of the 21st century to be subject to such barbaric behaviour.

I found the Chamonix side to be much more civilised and accomodating.

Cross Country Skiing in Courmayeur.

View Comments - Post a Comments

Courmayeur, the famous Mont Blanc ski resort is not just one of the best winter destinations in Italy for downhill skiers. The resort has something of beauty and surroundings for cross country skiers as well. In Val Ferret, just a few kms (about 6) from the center of Courmayeur lies one of the most beautiful cross country areas in all of the Alps. Stretching to 20km of sci di findo (thats Italian folks) trails, the area is suitable for all standards. It is reached by bus or private car. There is plenty of parking..... More details
